The issue

I am writing to express my strong objection to the building consent granted without notification for the construction of 28 units proposed at 798 Chapel Road, Northpark.

The SECRETLY granted consent of 28 units failed to recognize the significant adverse and detrimental effects on the environment and surrounding community areas. The proposed development is considered NOT complying with the current Auckland Unitary Plan principles nor the proposed Intensification Planning Instrument (IPI) Proposed Plan Change to the Auckland Unitary Plan.

The development is obviously and directly linked to the following unexpected results.

-Environmental Impacts: The construction and operation of such a large-scale development brings public problems related to quality of air, noise, stormwater, glare, odour and privacy and overshadowing. This will directly affect the quality of life for the local community.

-Traffic matters: Such high-density housing units generate high demand for on-street parking which is not possible on this part of Chapel road. This means people who live in these units will need to fight for on-street parking places apart from their house , causing pedestrian safety problems because there is no pedestrian walkway to cross the roads.

-Safety and Social Issues: Without sufficient space and proper facilities support, high-density housing is very likely to generate disagreements and conflicts that do harm to the community harmony, thus, potentially lead to violent actions and even criminal activities.

No mitigation has been recognized or confirmed to address the adverse impacts on the environment and the community as highlighted above. I strongly request that Auckland Council should suspend the construction activities that is undertaking now on the site and reconsider the consent for this project with public notification and shared information in the local community before going any further.
