OPPOSE TEN STORY BUILDINGS IN ST ANDREWS

The Issue

John McVeigh plans to bulldoze historic St Andrews and build a ten story, 60 housing unit per acre, massive concrete structure spanning an entire block. This will destroy the entire block from (East to West) 11th Ct to 11th Street (North to South) Beck Ave to Bayview Ave. He makes the claim that are currently “no plans” to do this but after attending the November 12th public hearings, it’s clear plans will be made and St Andrews will be destroyed.

The current businesses and/or buildings located in the immediately at risk include: Luna Muna Cafe • Burgun Barrel • St Andy’s • Native Spirit • The Dive • Newbys Brewhouse • The Masonic Lodge • The Dive House •  Residential apartments (11th ct) • The Slicehouse - Little Indigo ect

This petition seeks not only to prevent the destruction of these buildings but to register them as historic sites & to change the current zoning to reduce the allowable height to four stories or 40 feet.

We are also requesting assessments of environmental impacts to be a requirement for any and all future development plans.

This should include the impacts on fauna & flora that protected wildlife depend on, such as the Bald Eagle, Piping Plover, Red Shoulder Hawk & the East Indigo Snake. These impacts include increased pollution from transient populations that do not share our values.

The residents want a clear plan to ensure parking for any future developments that will not further congest traffic.

we must consider the economic implications of such changes.

Large-scale developments often prioritize profit over community welfare, leading to increased property taxes and a rise in the cost of living. This could push out long-standing residents and alter the demographic makeup of our neighborhood, eroding the very essence of what makes Historic St Andrews unique. .

WE MUST ACT QUICKLY to beat the Dec 10th deadline to present this petition and SAVE ST ANDREWS!
