We had ten fantastic speakers to advocate for our D135 students and media specialists at last night’s school board meeting. That, along with your 500+ signatures helped to convince the board that media specialists should be kept in the buildings full-time. In the end, the school board recommended to hire another k-2 librarian so that grade 3-5 students can keep media specialist in the building full-time! Hopefully, the district listens to the recommendation and actually hires one. With that, we will have nine media specialists for our ten buildings, meaning we are still one short. But, this is a huge improvement and step in the right direction. Please watch last night’s board meeting discussion about staffing that begins at hour 1:25. Next fall, the media specialists will be working towards gaining that tenth member for our students and looking for your support again. This would really complement the district’s literacy plan and help improve test scores. You can watch the new literacy plan discussion from the same meeting at hour 1:07:45. Thank you for supporting D135 students and media specialists!
