Tonight’s meeting is purposely scheduled during the summer. District knows that people are out of town, busy with the kids home, and that school matters are out of sight and out of mind. Even if you don’t plan on speaking, just showing up and being present will tell the school board you care about keeping media specialists in schools full-time.
Associate superintendent Dave Snyder said this is not a financial decision. Our district is financially healthy. They should and can hire a new K-2 librarian and not take away from the grade 3-5 students. This is what was expected when primary grades gained more minutes. District thinks it is okay to shuffle media specialists because they are confusing it with a specials class. The media center is not the same as PE, art or music class.
District office is located at the corner of 151st street and 94th Avenue. If you plan on speaking, come early to sign up. The meeting starts at 6pm.
