As residents of Morgan County, we express our intense opposition to the proposed rezoning of approximately 158 acres from Agricultural (AG) to Planned Unit Development (PUD) to expand the data center’s footprint in Monrovia, Indiana. This is personal because we believe the negative effects on our community will far outweigh any perceived positives. While we understand the financial pressures faced by our county officials, we ask for sustainable and beneficial business developments that truly enrich our community without compromising our environmental and economic welfare.

**Energy Concerns:**

Monrovia currently lacks the energy resources required to sustain such an expansion. The additional strain on our energy systems will inevitably lead to increased utility rates, placing a financial burden on the residents of Morgan County.  This has been attested to by employees of Duke Energy, senior quality managers at AES and IPL. The expansion would demand substantial energy consumption, diverting resources away from the local community and creating larger ecological footprints that could affect our environment for generations to come.

**Impact on Local Employment:**

While proponents of the data center highlight potential job opportunities, it is critical to note that many construction and operational jobs would likely be filled by out-of-area personnel, not providing the direct economic benefit promised to our local workforce. The anticipated job influx may benefit external contractors rather than fostering local market growth.

**Protecting Our Community:**

Rezoning and expanding the data center area would fundamentally alter the character and landscape of our town. Large-scale industrial projects could diminish property values, disrupt the rural tranquility that defines Monrovia, and erode the small-town feel cherished by its residents.

The data centers in which county county council members allegedly visited to understand perceived "noise" pollution or other negative effects have been verified by independent resources as non-operational during their visit, hence, no negative effects of the data center that were discussed would have been applicable anyway.

We need thoughtful consideration of our community’s economic and environmental health. Sustainable initiatives and businesses that respect and preserve our county’s character and resources must take priority.

Join us in opposing this rezoning effort that threatens the integrity and future of Monrovia. Together, we can advocate for development that aligns with our values and supports our community’s long-term prosperity and well-being. We urge you to sign this petition to protect our county’s interests.
