This petition is to change the cell phone policy at Northview Middle School and to persuade the school board to vote NO on placing the new cell phone policy across the district. 

The current policy is that phones have to be powered off and in our bags before and after school, at lunch, in class, and at passing times. If phones are seen during the day, they are taken without warning and locked in the school vault. Parents are called, and it goes on our record. We never got any reason or warning, leaving us hurt, clueless, and confused.

This policy can cause many problems. If an emergency arises, there is no way to communicate besides the front desk, which isn't reliable. Simple things like a change in pickup, sports change, and forgotten Chromebooks become huge problems due to the lack of communication. It also harms students by causing us to rebel against rules we find oppressive and taking away opportunities to learn and gain responsibility.

We are proposing an alternative policy where we can still have phones before and after school, and at lunch. But the same harsh rules if phones are out in class and are used to take videos or pictures without consent.

The school board votes to implement this new policy district-wide in November so time is of the essence sign and share now to help!
