Oppose motion to cut ties between Gold Coast City council and Netanya

The Issue

A motion has been put forward to Gold Coast City Council to sever the sister city relationship between Netanya in Israel and the Gold Coast. The lobbyists have also called for Netanya Place in Surfers Paradise to be renamed.

In a time when antisemitism is rising at an extremely alarming level across the globe, we need to stand together and preserve Australia’s position in supporting our partner, the only true democracy in the Middle East. We must also show that we in Australia do not support moves that ostracise minorities  by allowing motions like this to be realised.

Renaming a park in Surfers Paradise will do nothing to affect the situation in Gaza/Israel but it will send the wrong message to members of the Australian community. The push to rename the park and cut ties between Gold Coast city and Netanya does not represent the wishes of this city but it is being led by disruptive extremists whose voices are being heard.
Together we can demonstrate that we stand with Israel and our Jewish community and preserve the long standing relationship between Netanya and Gold Coast city.
