Oppose high density apartments on Old K7
The Issue
The city of Shawnee is planning to approve the re-zoning of the lot labeled 5095 Old K7 for the construction of the Zarah multi-family residential development
This proposed development will have a substantial impact on the enrollment of our neighborhood schools, especially Belmont Elementary. It will also directly impact the residents who live in Highland Ridge, Belle Meade, and non associated homes off Old K7.
The proposal is to build 4 apartment buildings (referred to as garden units) and 7 townhomes for a total of 184 multi family units within the 16.4 acres directly East of Estates of Highland Ridge.
If this passes, the entrance/exit of the complex will be directly across from Estates of Highland ridge’s one and only entrance. This is also the main entrance to the Belle Meade neighborhood. This proposal will significantly increase traffic along Old K7, which will also directly effect the value of our homes, and the sentiment of our neighborhoods.
The planning commission will vote to rezone this land from Agricultural to Planned Unit Development Mixed Residential as well as approving the preliminary development plan of The Zarah on July 3, 2023. If we do not stand up in opposition of this plan now, it will be too late.
