We object to the recent decision by the government to fund the development of Manchester United's new stadium, particularly given that the club is owned by billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a non-U.K tax payer. At a time where numerous critical sectors of society are underfunded, it is unacceptable to use taxpayer's funds to heighten the wealth of an already prosperous individual and entity. In 2019, football clubs in the UK generated a combined 5.155 billion pounds in revenue. This figure highlights how successful and financially stable these football clubs are, proving that they can self-fund their projects. We urge the government to reevaluate this decision and prioritize public money towards public services like healthcare and education, which truly benefit the citizens of the UK.
