Oppose Erewash Borough Council's Proposed Green Belt Development

The Issue

Erewash Borough Council is planning to authorise significant development within the treasured Green Belt.

At an extraordinary meeting taking place on Thursday 27th March 2025 at Long Eaton Town Hall, the Labour-led Erewash Borough Council are proposing several new sites be earmarked for housing development on existing Green Belt land.

Residents across Erewash Borough will be affected. This is on top of sites previously identified in the existing core strategy. New sites have been identified in

  • Breadsall
  • Breaston
  • Borrowash
  • Draycott
  • Sandiacre
  • West Hallam

Many of the locations now being proposed for development were previously discounted as being unsuitable, yet the present leadership at Erewash Borough Council seems determined to press ahead and change the character of our towns and villages.

Once the land is developed, we lose these beautiful spaces forever. Therefore, it's urgent that we preserve these areas for current and future generations. This petition serves as a collective voice in opposing the council's proposed plans.

Please attend the meeting at 19:00 on Thursday 27th March at Long Eaton Town Hall. The public are entitles to attend.

We urge Erewash Borough Council to reconsider.

Cllr Wayne Major (County Councillor for Sandiacre and Leader of the Opposition on Erewash Borough Council)

Cllr Bethan Eddy (Deputy Leader of the Opposition on Erewash Borough Council)

Cllr Garry Hickton (County Councillor for Petersham)

Cllr Carol Hart (County Councillor for Breadsall and West Hallam)
