Those who have signed this petition adamantly oppose Conejo Valley Unified School District’s (CVUSD) contract since 2019 with Camp Ramah, a Jewish-Zionist summer camp facility in Ojai, CA, where the annual 6th grade (& previously 8th grade) outdoor education program takes place. Camp Ramah is part of a larger network of camps linked to the Pro-Israeli lobby.

According to public records, the Conejo Valley Unified School District has spent approximately $1.2 million dollars of public school funding on their contract with Camp Ramah, between 2021-2024 (but the actual amount is likely higher taking into account earlier contracts). What is more, part of this funding comes from “revenue collected through donations” from CVUSD families. i.e. The family of each student that attends outdoor school must pay $275 to this Zionist organization.

The camp website itself states “[t]he Ramah Camping Movement is guided by seven core values: self-esteem of every individual; character development; Jewish learning; Jewish identity and community; Jewish observance; Zionism; and Hebrew... Ramah instills in its campers and staff a love of Judaism, the Jewish people, Israel and the outdoors.”

We demand that CVUSD dissolve their contract with Camp Ramah and find an appropriate alternative.

Key points behind our opposition:

• CVUSD may be violating the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause by financially supporting a camp facility with religious iconography and ideologies.
• CVUSD funds a facility that promotes an overtly racist and violent political ideology, undermining its own anti-discrimination claims: “CVUSD collectively stands against any form of racism, harassment, or discrimination within our schools.”
