Hello everyone,

I just want to say thank you once again for all your support in keeping Laurel students safe! I’d also like to thank everyone who came out to Saturday’s demonstration. It has been wonderful to see how much our community cares.

Now, I have one last favor to ask you. On Tues, Feb 16th, the City Council “should” vote to decide whether or not to change Gaslight Square’s Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to allow fast food drive-thrus (in this case, Raising Cane’s) next to Laurel Elementary School. This is our last big push to show the strength of our voice and our community’s concerns.

Please take a moment and email the Brea City Council (cityclerksgroup@cityofbrea.net) by 12pm on Tues, Feb 16th, which is the day of the meeting. (Please CC the individual City Council members to ensure your email is received: stevenv@ci.brea.ca.us, ceciliah@ci.brea.ca.us, christinem@ci.brea.ca.us, glennp@ci.brea.ca.us, and martys@ci.brea.ca.us)

It doesn’t have to be long. It can be as simple as:

To the Honorable Brea City Council:

As a resident of Brea, I urge you to keep the 1988 Conditional Use Permit at Gaslight Square and oppose the proposal to build a Raising Cane’s next to Laurel Elementary. It’s a safety hazard and not a good fit for that location. (Please feel free to use this.)

Remember, the BOUSD Board of Education discussed and voted (3 to 2) and their official position is in opposition to the current project proposal. (Feel free to add that to your letter.)

Also, the Laurel Parent Teacher Association officially opposes the project. (Also feel free to add that to your letter.)

On top of that, we currently have 876 supporters who stand for student safety and oppose this project. With all these people on our side, we can’t be wrong!

At the last City Council meeting, they received 55 emails opposing the project and only 1 supporting it. I am confident we can send at least 100 emails this time!

I’ve said it many times, we’re in the last part of the race, and we’re going to sprint towards the finish line! We’re doing this because we care about the safety of Laurel students and the safety of our community.

Thank you for all your support! I’ll be in touch and hope to give you good news.

Sincerely,

Rod
