Oppose Any Future Legislation Requiring Digital ID Cards for Employment or Travel
The Issue
We, the undersigned, strongly oppose any attempt to draft or pass legislation that mandates or implements digital identification cards, specifically those tied to biometric data — such as fingerprints, facial scans, or retinal data — as a condition of employment in the United States.
Such measures pose serious risks to privacy, civil liberties, and personal freedom. They create the possibility of centralized tracking of citizens, open the door to abuse of personal data, and set a dangerous precedent of conditioning the right to work on surrendering sensitive biometric information.
Employment is a fundamental aspect of human dignity and participation in society. Tying it to government-issued biometric IDs would:
-Further erode privacy by forcing individuals to surrender immutable biological traits.
Increase vulnerability to hacking, identity theft, and surveillance abuse.
-Discriminate unfairly against those unwilling or unable to comply with intrusive data collection.
-Create undue barriers to employment.
In 2024, there were 3,158 publicly reported data compromises in the U.S
These breaches led to 1.35 billion victim notices — in part due to several “mega breaches” (each impacting 100 million+ individuals.
Now imagine your most personal and private information being part of those breaches and the implications that has.
We call on lawmakers at every level — federal, state, and local — to:
Publicly reject any proposal to mandate biometric digital ID systems for employment or travel.
Commit to protecting citizens’ right to work without invasive surveillance.
Uphold privacy and liberty as cornerstones of American democracy.
We urge you to take this stance now, before such proposals are advanced.
