Oppose a Controlled Parking Zone in Underhill South

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents of Underhill South, oppose the introduction of a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) in our neighbourhood.

In the Council’s own informal engagement exercise, the clear majority of residents said they do not want a CPZ and do not experience parking problems. To ignore these results would undermine the Council’s credibility and erode trust in future community engagement.

A CPZ here would:

  • Reduce parking availability by removing spaces near junctions and driveways.
  • Create new costs for residents and visitors, especially the elderly and vulnerable.
  • Fail to address the real causes of parking pressure, such as visits to Barnet Hospital and the proposed station redevelopment.

We call on our elected councillors to respect the outcome of the engagement exercise and reject any attempt to impose a CPZ, even an experimental one, in Underhill.

85% of us oppose the proposal and more than 70% of us have no parking problems. Officers have said that they would report back by the end of September 2025. Residents’ voices must come before council officers’ plans.
