There are times in a marathon when a steady pace is the correct strategy and junctures when an increase in speed is needed.
Our fight for transparency is, after all, a marathon. WDFW leadership and Tribal spokespersons have made excuses and stated positions why the secret meetings cannot be viewed. However, thanks to all of you and the media outlets that are following this fight, there are now some very influential people who are asking questions and seeking information, rather than just condoning business as usual.
Just three days ago, our newest Commissioner, Barbara Baker, met with us and was accompanied by WDFW Deputy Director, Joe Stohr. They were very attentive as we addressed the issue of public oversight as being vital to insuring a fair and fully equitable process. They listened carefully on our point that only through a fully open management system can we have any hope of working together to save our fish.
Our exchange was encouraging, as it again allowed us to reach out to individuals in leadership positions and share our issue in a personal, direct and informative manner. We all asked question, shared answers and exchanged ideas.
The more leaders we can reach, the louder our message is. The tide has turned and we are now starting to get indications that our message has been heard and leaders are looking into this issue.
Let there be no confusion, this struggle is not over. Although the North of Falcon process is underway, we will continue to fight for the fish, as that is our priority. We know you will continue to fight as well. Reach out to your groups, your friends, families and fellow sportsmen and women. Let them know we are still running strong, and will continue to push for transparency, equality and a factual conservation based management system in our fisheries. We will not fall short in seeking leadership that is not afraid to make the right choices even if they are not the easy decisions.
We will continue having meetings and conversations with leaders both in the State and Tribal governments. We will let them know you want positive change in our fisheries, and will not quit until these secret meetings end. We continue to fight for a system where the people, once again, are allowed a process that has nothing to hide and is open to all.
STAY RESOLVED, THEY ARE LISTENING!
