How about Queen Street to Parnell?

The hill is a nightmare! What you might not know is that there is a solution.

Beneath Albert Park, 3.5km of tunnels run to Parnell straight under the University.

These tunnels were built during WWII to house over 20,000 people in case of Air Raids. They were filled in with bricks and left to rot away!

A plan to refurbish these tunnels already exists! The main tunnel would be used for easy cycling and walking, increasing accessibility for the elderly and those with disabilities. It connects the new Aotea Train Station to The University of Auckland and Parnell. Under the plan, tributary tunnels would be turned into tourism attractions with glow worms and wine and cheese caves! 

Construction time?  Six months.

Cost? It is negligible compared to the 5.5 billion dollar train line and blood-draining stadium debate.

The mayor? He said no.
