Bay House School currently has 10 toilet facilities but only 2 are open, 1 for boys and 1 for girls. There are facilities in V block, L block, B block and 4 in R block but they only ones open are 2 in R block. 

Government guidance advises 1 toilet per 20 pupils. Bay house school currently has 20 toilets per 2,000 pupils. That’s 1 toilet per 100 pupils (Not including Sixth Form). That’s 80% less than advised. This school thinks that 20 toilet cubicles will be able to cater for 5 year groups + Sixth Form. Do you think this is acceptable?

Us students also have concerns with staff acting as “bouncers” outside of the toilets. Many pupils feel threatened by this, causing most to avoid using the toilets. We feel it is wrong that we fear to use the toilets as we feel intimidated by the staff outside. There have been many occasions where staff have actually entered the toilets and knocked on cubicle doors. This is particularly uncomfortable for female pupils as there are specific reasons for them to be in the toilet for so long.

Some pupils have fed back about opposite sex teachers entering toilets. Although it is part of the school policy, doesn’t it go against a persons morals?

We understand why they patrol the toilets but most of the school is innocent but are being punished for the minority of misbehaving pupils.
