Dear Prime Minister,

We write to you about Gordon Ng, our Waverley College classmate from the graduating year of 1996.

We grew up with Gordon. We remember him as a kind guy and a high performer. Easy, smart, funny and humble. Gordon is also very much Australian, a believer in freedom and fairness.

Since 2021, Gordon has been locked up, reportedly denied consular assistance, and charged with subversion under Hong Kong's National Security Law. While he denies all charges, justice and fairness are not things that Gordon can expect to receive as he stares down a possible life sentence.

We ask you, Prime Minister, to use your upcoming visit to China to raise Gordon’s case with President Xi and to insist on his return home. This is wholly in keeping with our values and our belief in due process protections. It’s also consistent with Australia’s criticism of the arbitrary application of Hong Kong’s National Security Law.

Gordon was arrested for allegedly launching a petition in support of democracy in Hong Kong. We now launch this petition in support of him.
