Open letter in solidarity with Israel

We, the undersigned members of Cuban Canadians for a Democratic Cuba, consider it a duty to stand with Israel at this perilous juncture. Fully conscious of what is at stake, the survival of the only free and democratic country in the Middle East, we want to express our solidarity with the Jewish state.

Today, Hamas may or may not represent the citizens of Gaza, and chances are we will never see the day when a group is able to call itself “Gazans for Israel”. But the fact is that peaceful coexistence with a jurisdiction ruled by vile supremacists inspired by a death cult, is demonstrably impossible.

As the war prolongs, Israel will be left alone. But those who value freedom and admire the resilience of the Jewish people, will validate their right to defend themselves.

Throughout the arduous task of accomplishing the military and strategic objectives of this necessary war, initiated by Hamas on October 7th, we will stand with Israel. And we will do so not just because it is indeed the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people, but also because that small territory represents the future we yearn for our own homeland of Cuba: freedom, plurality of viewpoints, democracy, prosperity, and compassion.

Let there be peace in the world, but never at the expense of Israel’s right to exist.
