Open investigation into El Paso government officials

The Issue

As a concerned resident of El Paso, I am deeply troubled by the recent decision to approve a data center in our community. This decision, made by the members of the El Paso government, is set to have significant financial repercussions for all residents, yet it offers no discernible benefits to us.

The construction of this data center is expected to cause our utility rates to skyrocket to three times their current levels. For a community already managing tight budgets, this increase is nothing short of devastating. Our utilities are fundamental to our daily lives, and such an increase would strain the resources of countless families, making it harder for individuals to make ends meat.

Moreover, this approval was granted without adequate transparency or consultation with affected residents. We, the people of El Paso, deserve to have a voice in decisions that impact our lives so profoundly. There seems to be a lack of due diligence and public accountability in how this decision was reached, raising concerns of potential misconduct or negligence among those in power.

It's unclear if any comprehensive impact studies or economic analyses were conducted before this major commitment was approved. This investigation aims to uncover the full details behind the decision-making process, including who benefited from this project and why it was prioritized over the welfare of El Paso's residents.

We demand a thorough investigation into the actions and motivations of the El Paso government officials involved in greenlighting this project. We need to ensure our local leaders act in the best interests of their constituents and that such decisions are made with the transparency and responsibility they warrant.

By signing this petition, you're supporting a call for accountability and transparency from our local government to prevent decisions that may harm rather than help our community in the future. Join me in urging local authorities to initiate this investigation for the sake of El Paso's future.

Update// Eventual will require a paper petition, however please continue to spread the word. Thank you.

Thank you for bringing this petition to my attention. The Chapter 380 Agreement between the City of El Paso and Meta was approved by City Council in 2023. I was not a member of Council at that time. In fact, only two of the current eight Council members served when this agreement was approved, so any request for an investigation into the approval process should be directed to those who were in office then. As for my position, I share the concerns many residents have raised. I do not support the continuation of this agreement. I am particularly concerned about the strain on critical resources such as water and electricity, and the potential impact those demands could have on taxpayers, as well as their children and the future generations of El Paso. While I was not involved in the original approval, my office has been actively reviewing this matter and evaluating available options in this regard.
