Open Global Employment Opportunities for Syrian Programmers

The Issue

As a Syrian citizen and an experienced software developer, I speak not only for myself but for thousands of skilled Syrian programmers who are systematically excluded from fair employment opportunities. Despite strong technical capabilities, proven experience, and resilience developed under extremely difficult conditions, Syrian professionals face severe barriers to entering the global job market.

Syrian developers have repeatedly demonstrated their ability to contribute to high-quality software, innovation, and problem-solving—often while working with limited infrastructure and resources. Yet inside Syria, local companies frequently fail to provide sustainable jobs or fair compensation. At the same time, many international companies either overlook Syrian talent entirely or block access due to nationality, location, or excessive restrictions, regardless of individual qualifications.

This situation creates a cycle of economic hardship, professional stagnation, and wasted human potential. It is not a lack of skill or motivation—it is a lack of access. Preventing qualified individuals from working solely because of their nationality or place of residence harms both the individuals and the global technology ecosystem.

We call on technology companies worldwide, from startups to large multinational corporations, to adopt inclusive hiring practices that consider Syrian professionals based on skills and merit. Remote work, contract-based roles, international payroll solutions, and fair compensation models already exist and can be used responsibly and legally to include Syrian talent.

We also urge governments, NGOs, and international organizations to:
 • Support platforms that connect Syrian professionals with global employers
 • Facilitate legal, transparent remote work frameworks
 • Invest in skill development and workforce integration programs

By opening access to global employment, companies gain dedicated, highly capable professionals, while Syrian developers gain dignity, stability, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the global digital economy.

This petition calls for recognition, fairness, and practical action. By signing, you support equal opportunity in the tech industry and help ensure that talent is valued based on ability—not nationality.
