As many avid mountaineering people know, summiting all of the 14ers in Colorado is a goal that many have, but few ever achieve. One reason for this being that Culebra Peak is on privately owned land. The owners of this mountain require a reservation, and the wait list is quite long, due to the fact that they only open the mountain for two months out of the year, and even then, only on Fridays and Saturdays. On top of all of that, there is also a hefty reservation fee. Privately owning such a high recreational valued mountain is unethical. The land owners are doing their best to run a hiking program, but they just aren’t equipped to run this efficiently. Many people may oppose opening this mountain to the public, claiming that opening it will take away the protection this mountain now possesses. This is not the case, as the majority of the 14ers in Colorado are already under various environmental protection programs, whilst still allowing hikers and backpackers to summit the mountains. I petition to make Culebra Peak readily available to hikers, by either removing the reservation system entirely, or making it more lax and allowing more people to summit per year
