Open a Temporary Access Route for Atlantic Wharf Residents

We support the Cardiff Bay Arena. We simply want fair access to our homes.

Since construction began in 2025, residents of Schooner Way and the wider Atlantic Wharf area have effectively been left with just one practical route in and out of our neighbourhood.

With the ongoing Callaghan Square and Tyndall Street roadworks, that route is frequently gridlocked. A journey that should take a few minutes can regularly take twenty or thirty minutes just to leave or return home. This disruption is expected to continue until at least 2028.

At the start of the project, residents were told that temporary access through the former County Hall site to Hemingway Road was being considered.

Since then, we’ve received no update.

From what can be seen on site, this route still appears achievable. Only a short section would require resurfacing, while the remainder already exists. The area is currently used mainly for temporary storage and does not appear to be essential to the construction works.

We’re not asking for the project to stop or be delayed.

We’re simply asking Cardiff Council and the project team to work with residents to provide a temporary access route for the duration of the construction, helping reduce congestion and making it easier for hundreds of local residents to access their homes.

We ask Cardiff Council and the Cardiff Bay Arena project partners to:

  • Reconsider a temporary access route through the former County Hall site.
  • Explain why the original proposal has not progressed.
  • Work with residents to find a practical solution until construction is complete.

If you believe Atlantic Wharf residents deserve fair and reasonable access to their homes while this major development is being built, please sign and share this petition.
