The Issue

The issue of how to adequately punish perpetrators of the most heinous crimes against children is deeply personal to me. My heart aches for the most vulnerable members of our society—babies and children—who deserve the highest possible level of protection and justice. I am haunted by cases involving brutal abuse, sexual offences, and the murder of innocent children, leaving me with a firm belief that current punishments do not reflect the gravity of the harm inflicted on these young victims.

Consider the harrowing case of baby Preston, whose suffering at the hands of his abuser reveals a glaring deficiency in the justice system. The horror of the treatment, abuse, and sexual offences he endured underscores my conviction that alternative sentencing options must be seriously considered.

We call upon the UK Government and Parliament to engage in a national debate about the potential reintroduction of corporal punishment as a sentencing option for the most serious and heinous crimes, such as the murder of children, sexual offences against children, and other exceptionally brutal murders.

Evidence from past judicial systems suggests that corporal punishment can serve as a powerful deterrent against those contemplating such horrific acts. Additionally, it may provide a sense of justice and closure for victims and families who have suffered unimaginable pain and loss.

Many feel that current sentencing options do not adequately match the severity of these crimes. By revisiting corporal punishment, we can ensure that those who commit the most egregious offences face consequences that truly reflect their actions.

This complex issue demands attention and thoughtful discourse amongst decision-makers and the public alike. Our society must prioritize the protection of its children by exploring every avenue to deter and punish those who would harm them.

Join us in urging the UK Government and Parliament to open this critical debate. Sign this petition to demand a justice system that truly delivers justice for the youngest and most vulnerable among us.
