One World: Make PH Concerts More Environmentally Sustainable

One World: Make PH Concerts More Environmentally Sustainable
The Issue
ONE WORLD: Make PH Concerts More Environmentally Sustainable'
Filipinos love live music and the country has become a hotspot for global tour stops for a lot of music acts (The Philippine Star, 2012).
WHERE THE PROBLEM LIES
Concerts, both indoor and outdoor, contribute to climate change and global warming through energy consumption, fossil fuel use, and waste production. The average concert generates 75 tons of CO2, equivalent to seven people's annual emissions, due to electricity generation, transportation, and neon lights (The New York Times, 2017).
WHAT CAN ARTISTS/ORGANIZERS DO?
Some artists and organizers are taking steps to reduce their environmental impact, such as using renewable energy sources, promoting sustainable practices, and reducing waste (Billboard, 2017; TreeHugger, 2012). A great example of this is the band Coldplay's Music of the Spheres tour where they implemented multiple steps to reduce their environmental impact.
WHAT CAN THE PH GOVERNMENT DO?
This is to be presented to government officials petitioning them to enact regulations on musical labels to have them observe proper sustainable practices, in return for tax cuts and wider promotion of the events.
WHAT CAN YOU DO AS A CONCERTGOER?
Your signature will help us push sustainable practices for the betterment of our country. Let this be an example to other industries so we can continue supporting our favorite artists while also saving the planet for the next generation.
