The Issue

This petition urges the Government of India to reconsider the upcoming Delimitation Bill, as it poses an existential threat to India’s federal equilibrium and equitable representation. While presented as a routine administrative process, it risks triggering a redistribution of Lok Sabha seats that could significantly shift political power away from the South. Southern states, which have consistently invested in education, healthcare, and responsible governance, now face a “demographic penalty” affecting millions of citizens. The South has long experienced systemic neglect by the Centre in areas such as budget allocation and policy prioritization, and this move takes that imbalance to a new level by threatening to dilute its political voice. It creates a structural disadvantage where regions that have contributed substantially to national growth risk being sidelined in decision-making. This undermines cooperative federalism and weakens the principle of balanced representation. We urge all citizens to stand against this move and demand a delimitation framework that considers development and contribution alongside population. India’s strength lies in regional equity. Sign this petition to ensure progress does not come at the cost of political voice.
