One More Day — Give Every Worker an Annual ECG to Prevent Sudden Death

One More Day — Give Every Worker an Annual ECG to Prevent Sudden Death
The Issue
My brother, Andrew Byrne, was just 27 when he died suddenly from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) — a silent killer that claims the lives of seemingly healthy young people.
Andrew did what many don't — he sought medical help. He visited his GP multiple times with chest pain. He had ECGs that later showed dangerous abnormalities. But no one followed up. No one referred him. And no one was held accountable.
SADS is one of the leading causes of death in young adults, yet routine ECG screenings are not part of national policy. Most people don’t even know what SADS is — or that a simple test could save lives.
I’m calling on the UK Government and NHS England to:
-Give every UK worker one paid sick day per year dedicated to a free ECG screening
-Launch a national campaign to raise awareness of SADS and cardiac symptoms in young people
-Improve GP accountability and ECG follow-up protocols
This is not just about my brother — it's about making sure no one else’s life is lost to something preventable. Please sign to show your support for Andrew, and for the families still unaware of this hidden danger.
One day, one test, one life saved. Please help us make it happen.
