One Call, One Canada: Equal Religious Freedom for Every Faith
The Issue
On June 19, 2026, Regina City Jamia Masjid in Regina, Saskatchewan broadcast the adhan - the Islamic call to prayer - outdoors under a permit for the first time.
They needed a police escort to do it.
Within hours of the broadcast, the mosque received serious hate threats. Regina Police Service deployed officers and opened a hate crime investigation. A Canadian Muslim community needed protection to exercise a right guaranteed by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
This is not a Muslim issue. It is a Canadian issue.
Section 2(a) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects freedom of conscience and religion for every Canadian. Churches ring bells. Synagogues hold outdoor services. Gurdwaras play kirtan. When any religious community in Canada requires police protection to exercise that right - something has gone wrong, and every Canadian should care.
We are calling on the Government of Canada to:
- Ensure the Regina hate crime investigation is conducted thoroughly and that charges are pursued where evidence exists
- Direct the Special Representative on Islamophobia to formally engage with Regina City Jamia Masjid and the One Call, One Canada movement
- Affirm, through Parliament, that the public expression of all faiths - including the adhan - is protected and welcome in Canada
- Fund community safety measures for mosques and other religious institutions facing targeted threats
One Call, One Canada launched in direct response to this incident. We are building a national coalition of Muslims, Christians, Jews, Sikhs, Baha'i, Indigenous peoples, and all Canadians who believe that religious freedom must be real - not theoretical. Learn more and join the movement at onecallonecanada.com.
Add your name. Tell Parliament: equal religious freedom is not negotiable.
Want to do more? Visit onecallonecanada.com to join the coalition, share the story, and track what Parliament does next.
This petition will be presented to the House of Commons Justice Committee and the Special Representative on Islamophobia.
