This petition urges Oklahoma legislators to take action in giving women inmates free access to menstrual products. The current law that allows for free access is being exploited by the system. Oklahoma needs to take a stand to ensure that more ethical policies are being enforced for the protection of basic human rights. Women in incarceration deserve to have their basic needs met. Menstrual products are a right, and denying them to women should be considered illegal. Currently, 26 states have policies that allow women to gain free access to menstrual products. Oklahoma is not one of those states. If Oklahoma adopts a policy allowing women prisoners to gain free access to their basic needs, then it will be taking a step in the right direction. By signing this petition, you take a stand against the abuse that female prisoners face everyday. I know these people are in prison, but that doesn’t mean they deserve to not have a menstrual pad or tampon during their time of the month.
