Commute Marquis Bullock's life sentence or grant new trial.
The Issue
Hello everyone! I'm starting this petition to support my friend Marquis Bullock, who deserves justice.
Marquis was unjustly convicted of 1st-degree murder in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the 2007 death of Cori Baker at just 18 years old. The charges were based on inconsistent statements and questionable evidence, including a "false positive" blood test in his car.
Having no criminal record, Marquis was subjected to over six hours of interrogation without food, water, or proper legal rights. He admitted to giving Cori a ride home but has consistently denied involvement in her death. Marquis' girlfriend, who is Cori's sister, changed her story multiple times, ultimately testifying that Marquis was home during the murder — a detail that proved his innocence.
Before the trial, a witness came forward, revealing that her ex-husband, Samuel Raulston, who lived with Cori and her family at the time, confessed to her that he was the real killer. This witness reported finding child pornographic material in a storage locker shared with Raulston and alleged that he threatened her when she confronted him about it. Although this critical information was raised to the police, they failed to investigate it further. The witness was also barred from testifying because the court deemed her testimony "inflammatory and irrelevant". Raulston eventually faced convictions for assault and possession of child pornography in an unrelated case. He also previously lived just 5 miles from where the remains were found, yet this connection was also never explored by the police.
Additionally, A key statement supposedly made to a detective was claimed to have been "accidentally erased," and there’s no record of it, yet it was allowed at trial.
Remarkably, even with NO DNA evidence linking Marquis to the crime—nothing on his clothing, his person, or his vehicle. No witnesses placed him at the scene where Cori's remains were ultimately found on the day she disappeared, and still, NO murder weapon having ever been recovered, nor a cause or manner of death determined, Marquis remains in prison. His case highlights significant flaws in the justice system, and we believe a review of his conviction is essential.
As society becomes increasingly aware of wrongful convictions, we recognize that errors occur within the police and prosecution — they are human. Shockingly, our state government seems unwilling to rectify its own mistakes, even when they result in devastating consequences for individuals’ lives and freedoms.
In Marquis's case, we believe a mishandling of evidence and inconsistencies in testimonies led to an unfair ruling. We are calling on our justice system to review the conviction and bring Marquis the justice he deserves. Each sign of this petition is a step closer to rectifying this grave injustice. Sign this petition to give Marquis Bullock the chance for a fair investigation and trial.
