On April 3, 1998, Tony Rahmel Smith murdered Lilius "Friggy" Landrum inside the Akron, Ohio home they shared. He decapitated her, hid her body in the basement, and fled to Columbus, where police caught him after a high-speed chase. Smith later pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 15 years to life.

Lilius was an aspiring actress who had returned home to Akron to care for her ailing mother. Her life, her future, and the years she should have had with the people who loved her were taken from her.

Lilius's family has spent years fighting to keep her killer behind bars. In 2013, the Ohio Parole Board denied Smith's first bid for release. He was denied again following a December 2022 hearing. His next parole review is currently scheduled for October 2032.

For Lilius's family, every parole review means having to fight again for the life and memory of someone who can no longer speak for herself. They should not have to stand alone.
