The Child Advocacy Network (CAN) - is continuing our work to ensure that New Jersey’s most vulnerable children — those who have experienced loss, trauma, foster care, or adoption — are seen, heard, and protected. We have spent the past may months talking with legislators in New Jersey to push these protections forward.
We’re now examining ways to expand the scope of the existing New Jersey Ombudsman’s Office for Individuals with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (currently led by Paul Aronsohn) to include children who have experienced trauma due to foster care involvement or adoption.
By broadening the definition of who is protected, we can ensure that children impacted by loss and trauma receive similar advocacy, oversight, and protection currently afforded to individuals with disabilities and their families.
We’re grateful to have the support of the NJ Ombudsman’s Office and are exploring opportunities to combine the core priorities of our pending legislation with other complementary bills to achieve this goal more effectively.
This important step would create a unified, compassionate, and accountable system of care — one that recognizes that every child who has endured separation, loss, or trauma deserves a voice and a champion within our state’s systems.
Your continued support matters. Join us as we advocate for bipartisan legislative action that ensures every child in New Jersey has someone to advocate for their safety, stability, and well-being. Share and post about this petition to continue to keep child protection and advocacy at the forefront of legislative conversations.
