On Tuesday, September 5th Attorney General Jeff Session announced that the Trump Administration will rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The Attorney General cites that the DACA program was an overreach of power by the Obama administration, and stated that immigration reform under the Trump Administration will be done with the "hard-working American" in mind first.

The full statement given by the Attorney General is full of false, anti-immigration rhetoric that was meant to criminalize undocumented immigrants. The fact of the matter is this: DACA recipients are not the "benefit stealing" immigrants that the administration claims. This program allowed more than 800,000 undocumented immigrants to become eligible for work permits and continue their studies in the U.S. without the fear of deportation. In order to be considered for the program, DACA applicants must have undergone a rigorous application process, that required candidates to prove:

-They arrived in the United States before their 16th birthday
-They have lived continuously in the United States since June 15, 2007
-They were under the age 31 on June 15, 2012
-They were physically present in the United States on June 15, 2012, and at the time of making their request for consideration of deferred action with USCIS
-They had no lawful status on June 15, 2012
-They have completed high school or a GED, have been honorably discharged from the armed forces, or are enrolled in school
-They have not been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanors, or three or more other misdemeanors, and do not otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety

The application fee for the DACA program is approximately $495; a recurring fee that must be paid each renewal period.

DACA recipients have already proved their worth as hard-working contributors to the U.S. The termination of DACA is a heartless unnecessary legislative move that we, the Monarch community, will not stand by. We now call on our congressmen to come together and generate a clean, bipartisan, permanent legislative solution for DACA recipients.
