I live in the residential community in front of Cwm Farm, Tanglewood, Blaina, which faces a severe threat from the proposed development of a chicken slaughterhouse. This project, detailed in Planning Application P/2026/0068 to Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, endangers our safety and well-being due to its location on unstable land.

The proposed site for the slaughterhouse is alarmingly close to our homes, perched on a steep mountain that is notorious for its unstable terrain. Previous landslides have already wreaked havoc on different parts of this mountain. The ground here is compromised further by old and unused mine shafts, which pose significant risks of land subsidence and collapse. These geological risks alone should be reason enough for halting any construction plans in this area. Our biggest concern is the potential for landslides which would have devastating consequences.

Moreover, the establishment of a chicken slaughterhouse would drastically alter the character of our quiet, residential community. It would introduce noise, pollution, and the grim reality of living next to such an industrial operation. The odor, waste management issues, and increased traffic (lorries and farm vehicles) are just a few of the immediate threats to our tranquil daily lives and property values. The road itself is not very wide and probably wouldn’t tolerate such heavy traffic flow.

We cannot allow such an intrusive and potentially hazardous development to proceed unchecked. We urge Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council to consider these factors seriously. Our community's safety, the integrity of our land, and our quality of life are at stake.
