Justice for McKenzie Cochran (RE-OPEN HIS CASE)

Justice for McKenzie Cochran (RE-OPEN HIS CASE)

The Issue

Six years after his death, McKenzie Cochran, a Ferndale man, died when security officers pinned him to the floor at a mall.  Cochran died at the hands of security officers who held him face down on a mall floor, with one saying: "If you can talk, you can breathe."

Oakland County Prosecutor, Jessica Cooper, refused to bring charges in the case, which ended with her concluding that the mall security guards were "Poorly trained, had no intent to harm Cochran, and therefore shouldn't be charged".

Due to pressure from protesters amid the George Floyd incident in Minnesota, Cooper has sent a letter to Attorney General Dana Nessel, requesting "Fresh legal eyes" over the case .  Please sign this petition to help raise awareness for the reopening of the case, so the Cochran family receive the justice they seek.
