The DuPage Forest Preserve District and the Conservation Foundation are petitioning the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers for permission to destroy this dam.  It did not make sense to destroy it when they started this idea, and it still does not make any sense today!  

The Graue Mill Dam on Salt Creek in Oak Brook, Illinois was built in the 1930's by the CCC camp men, as a replacement for the damaged structure that was there.  There has been a dam on this site since 1852, and the current structure is on the National Register of Historic Places.  That doesn't seem to matter to the Conservation Foundation.  They have yet to provide ONE good reason why the dam should be removed.
