You wonder what Salt Creek will look like when the dam is removed? Well, here you go. It will be this dimension (nominally 70 feet across, about half the width of the current dam.) The lake (officially called the dam impoundment) WILL BE GONE, and in place of the dam and the waterfall we've all come to love as part of visiting Graue Mill will be this rock riffle. Bet you just can't wait!!!
Why? because the towns north of us think if the Oak Brook reach of Salt Creek is made to be "natural", then all of those dams, reservoirs, man made lakes, huge steel structures and all that they have on Salt Creek in their towns will be ok! Many of the towns urging the Forest Preserve District to blow up our dam aren't even in the Salt Creek Water Shed!
If you want to see this site in person (it is an old Mill site on the West Branch of the DuPage River), go out Butterfield Road to Batavia Road in Warrenville. Go south on Batavia Road just a couple of hundred feet, and on your left will be a small 10-car parking lot. You can walk over a bridge that spans what's left of the mill race for the mill that used to be there, and then you can see EXACTLY what the stream bed is going to look like at Graue Mill when their "work" is done. You will be SHOCKED!!! and you will be VERY sad.
