As students under the NZQA education system we have collated so much paper from past exams that just sits around unused. In response to this problem we propose that NZQA implements a system that enables students to send back their old exam papers, which will then be recycled and turned into future exam papers.

We want NZQA to recognise and understand how detrimental the mass production of exam papers every year is to the environment. The process of manufacturing paper contributes to pollution, as harmful gases such as nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide are released into the air contributing to greenhouse gas, and thus global warming - heat trapped and held in the atmosphere. 16,000 to 20,000 trees are cut down per year for NZQA exam papers alone, thus implementing a recycling scheme would decrease the environmental impacts that deforestation and the mass production of paper currently has.

If NZQA acknowledges our proposal, and implements the scheme, the following will occur; NZQA would collect all voided booklets, as well as unwanted resource booklets following an exam. By the end of the second school term, all unwanted exam papers will be collected by the school and sent back to NZQA to be recycled into new exam papers.
