Stop trashing New Zealand!!!

The issue

Many New Zealanders work tirelessly, many voluntarily, to protect our flora and fauna, to address sustainability and to fight climate change. There are other selfish, lazy and irresponsible individuals who don’t care about the environment:  they misappropriate supermarket/store trolleys, dumping them elsewhere when they’re no longer needed.

We call on NZ’s stores to do something about this untenable situation! Please sign our petition to ask them to act now!

The supermarkets are paying lip service to sustainability, it seems, regarding their shopping trolleys. Countdown says they have “an unwavering commitment to helping make Aotearoa a great place to live, where our people and environment thrive, and a place that is recognised globally as leading the way when it comes to tackling climate change”. They say they “want to drive positive changes in their supply chains and communities too”. New World, similarly, claims it is “doing their best to make NZ a better place for future generations“. Pak’nSave also claims to have a local community connection. “Here for NZ” they say.

The Warehouse also has a commitment to sustainability. They say they are committed to making a meaningful impact: one which is anchored in the belief that sustainability is regenerative, circular, human and dynamic.

These stores expect us (the customers) to identify which supermarket the trolley belongs to when we find one in the wrong place. They then expect us to contact them, which we do. But then, day after day, the trolleys are left waiting for collection. Often, they are misappropriated again before (if) they are finally collected!

There are locking and tracking systems available commercially. We want the trolley owners to introduce a system so that this pollution and environmental degradation will cease.

Please sign our petition to demand the stores address this unsustainable situation, NOW!
