As the Omicron variant of Covid-19 spreads wide in Auckland, many schools have had confirmed positive cases in their classrooms. This is inevitable of course; so far there are already over 10,000 active cases confirmed among Auckland's population of over one million; this equates to an infection rate of roughly one person out of 100.
Some parents are worried that their children may be infected at school, and family members that are not able to be vaccinated could potentially be infected when the students return home, especially for those young siblings under the age of 5. These parents (maybe you are included) wish the school will allow the concerned parents who are able to take care of their children at home. 
In light of the above situation, we hope that schools and the Ministry of Education consider concerns of the parents and take their points seriously. We wish to propose the following recommendations:
1. Allow parents to chose to care for their children at home instead of going to the school, and this shall not affect the attendance records of the students.
2. We ask that the Ministry of Education and schools to provide online learning opportunities for those students who chose to stay at home, enable them to keep up with the progress of relevant in class learning, so that when they return to the school later on they will be able to be integrated back seamlessly.
All for the sake of our children, all for the sake of the society, and all to minimize the potential risks of the country’s health system being overwhelmed should the outbreak become even more severe; We believe the above recommendations provides the best choice for our schools.
