The Ft. Tryon Park Trust has shared the following letter recently sent to Council Memeber Ydanis Rodriguez:
"We appreciate all your advocacy on behalf of the community and the
protection of the Scenic Landmark and National Register listed Fort Tryon Park and that you have gotten the height reduced to 15 stories.
Fort Tryon Park has no equal in terms of its sublime beauty,
craftsmanship, views and architectural and topographical features. The Trust worked diligently to prevent the viewshed from the west side of the park to be denigrated by the LG Electronics headquarters.
We feel that it is equally important to fight to preserve the landscape of the east side of the park, as it is the west side, and to ensure that the Olmsted Brothers' social justice goal of bringing beauty and a reprieve from the built environment to the masses, be upheld.
Therefore our lawsuit (Article 78) remains active as well feel it is urgent to have a proper EIS done before such a significant real estate decision is taken. The EAS prepared by the developer was deeply flawed and was truly misleading. Please keep in mind that even at 15 stories, we feel the impact on the park would be significant for generations to come.
We understand that this project will come before the Council tomorrow and we urge you to vote no.
Sincerely,
Jeff Bauml
Chair
Fort Tryon Park Trust"
