NYC CALLS FOR A STATE REVIEW OF MAYOR MAMDANI’S ACTIONS
The Issue
Petition to the Governor of New York State, Kathy Hochul, Regarding Mayor Zohran Mamdani
We, residents of New York City, respectfully request that the Governor of New York State, Hon. Kathy Hochul, initiate a formal review of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s conduct.
Recent media reports have raised significant concerns among many New Yorkers regarding Mayor Mamdani’s activities, including:
- The absence of Black Deputy Mayors in his initial leadership appointments, which prompted public criticism and a subsequent apology from the Mayor
- Long‑standing public support for BDS and anti‑Zionist positions, which many residents view as divisive and harmful to inter‑community relations
- Public refusal to define Israel as a Jewish state, as reported in multiple press sources
Defense of the slogan “Globalize the Intifada”, which many New Yorkers associate with violence and terrorism - Revocation of the IHRA definition of antisemitism upon taking office and replacement with the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism (JDA), a move publicly criticized by major Jewish organizations as weakening protections
- Reports that Mayor Mamdani met with Mohammed Khalil, a figure whose public positions have been widely criticized, leading some residents to question the judgment and message conveyed by such engagement.
- Media coverage noting that the Mayor’s spouse had “liked” social‑media posts that many New Yorkers interpreted as supportive of the October 7 attacks, raising questions about judgment and sensitivity to community trauma.
- Consideration of expanding paid parking meters into currently free residential neighborhoods, raising concerns about affordability and the financial burden on working families.
- Controversy surrounding his response to the Washington Square Park snowball incident and its impact on relations between the administration, NYPD, and local communities.
We believe that the pattern of decisions and public actions described above raises serious doubts about Mayor Mamdani’s ability to uphold the standards of judgment, responsibility, and moral leadership expected from the office of Mayor of New York City. These concerns are not isolated — they reflect a growing loss of public confidence.
For these reasons, we respectfully urge the Governor to take appropriate action following a thorough state‑level review.
We hope that, based on the results of such a review, state authorities will be able to determine whether Zohran Mamdani is failing to meet the standards required for the position of Mayor of New York City, should the findings support that conclusion.
New Yorkers deserve leadership that strengthens public trust, not erodes it!
