The issue

TO PREVENT LANDSCAPES OF GREAT NATURAL BEAUTY FROM BEING DESTROYED BY THE PROPOSED HUMELINK 500kV TRANSMISSION LINE STRETCHING 600 KM, WITH HUGE TOWERS UP TO 85M IN HEIGHT.

The Australian public doesn’t know that large tracks of landscape, of great natural beauty, will be industrialised forever by HumeLink 500kV transmission lines to bring Snowy 2.0 online.

Stretching a massive 600km and towering up to 85m, HumeLink will place a permanent scar across the nation’s landscape.

A neighbour, impacted by HumeLink, is one of our nation’s heroes.  He is our local fire captain and selflessly left his farm to fight the recent bushfires around the State, for months on end. The existing 330kV line is 500m from his house. The 500kV HumeLink line, with up to 85m high towers, will be closer again massively intruding on his family for generations to come. There are hundreds like him.

The government is even amending the Kosciuszko National Park Plan of Management, that bans any new overhead transmission lines through the National Park, to exempt Snowy 2.0 transmission lines from the ban - unbelievable!

This petition isn’t about stopping the transmission lines, rather it’s about constructing them in a responsible way, taking into account environmental and social impacts.

We are asking the relevant NSW State Government Ministers and the Federal Government Minister for Energy & Emissions to engage engineers, with extensive real-world project experience in undergrounding extra high voltage transmission lines, to do a feasibility study on undergrounding HumeLink.
