Premier Gladys Berejiklian, We need your help. Animal rescues and pounds are being overwhelmed. So many animals are being euthanized because of backyard breeding, irresponsible owners and simply a huge amount of incoming pets that rescues and shelters cannot handle. It is kitten season once again and once again rescues and shelters are being absolutely inundated,. You could make a huge difference to the unnecessary deaths and suffering experienced by the animals and the trauma and heartbreak of rescues who each year go through the same process of frantically scrambling trying to save and rehome as many as they can. Please consider bringing in as law the mandatory desexing  microchipping and registration of animals  Make it illegal to offer pets for sale undesexed, unmicrochipped on companies like Gumtree and enforce it harshly.No excuses. How about supporting TNR (trap,neuter,release) programs that are trying to make a difference to the numbers of street cat colonies/urban strays, a statistically proven measure that works very effectively? This cannot continue to be repeated year after year.  RSPCA statistics show thousands of animals are euthanised every year. Puppies, dogs, cats and kittens die needlessly.  Every year the Goverment is spending millions of dollars on animal control but neither is getting anywhere. Why? Because there are no laws in place to make pet owners responsible. A change to current policies is needed. Local councils in problem areas need to step up.  For existing owners maybe a once off free or heavily subsidised desexing and microchip, registration initiative. This ultimately would be a good cost effective measure for low income/multiple pet ownership when compared to the millions of dollars already spent in animal control by the Government.  Please help your communities.
