Oppose GRNSW's large scale greyhound facility in Martindale
Why this petition matters
Martindale is a community of farmers, growers, winemakers, agricultural & primary industry workers and property owners. We value the character and integrity of our small rural community.
Martindale community objects to GRNSW's Development Application (2021/129) for a proposed large scale greyhound boarding & training Facility at 1949 Martindale Rd, Martindale. The proposed facility will not meet the NSW Government industry reforms and standards nor is it in the best Public Interest.
Community consultation has been poorly advertised and ineffective because information about the development was through the incorrect media channels and not with the locals it directly impacts. Examples of this include running an advert in the Muswellbrook Chronicle despite Martindale community being located 50km away. On 4 March, 2022, GRNSW hosted an information session yet failed to invite ALL Martindale residents.
We request the NSW Government and any associated industry stakeholders to require GRNSW to:
- Justify how and why Bylong Park is considered the ideal property for this facility given its isolated, inaccessible, secured location; surrounded by privately owned agricultural land and within the equine and viticulture critical industry clusters; and bordering a National Park homing a colony of endangered Brush-Tailed Rock Wallabies.
- Identify a more accessible and appropriate location for their $33M re-training and rehoming facility.
- Facilitate more inclusive, fair and transparent community consultation.
- Amend their proposed large scale greyhound facility in Martindale.
