NSW Fuel Crisis: Lower Tolls to Reduce Fuel Waste and Support Drivers

NSW Fuel Crisis: Lower Tolls to Reduce Fuel Waste and Support Drivers
Le problème
New South Wales is currently facing serious fuel pressure due to global supply disruptions linked to international conflict affecting fuel supply. Petrol prices have surged toward $3 per litre and beyond, and Australia imports around 90% of its fuel, making us highly vulnerable. Across the country, including NSW, many petrol stations have run out of fuel or key fuel types, with reports showing dozens to over 100+ stations impacted, some completely dry.

This is not a normal situation ,it is a fuel stress event affecting everyday Australians right now.
At the same time, drivers across Sydney are forced into heavy congestion on non-toll roads, leading to stop-start driving, higher fuel consumption, and more money wasted per trip. While fuel supply is under pressure, wasting fuel in traffic is something we can control.
Toll roads in Sydney are designed to reduce congestion, keep traffic moving, and improve efficiency. However, due to high toll costs, many drivers are avoiding them even during a fuel crisis. This leads to more congestion on local roads, more fuel burned unnecessarily, and increased pressure on an already strained fuel supply.
Encouraging drivers to use toll roads during this fuel crisis can reduce overall fuel consumption across NSW, improve traffic flow across Sydney, ease pressure on fuel demand, and support households struggling with rising costs.
We call on the NSW Government to temporarily reduce or subsidise toll costs during fuel supply disruptions, introduce toll caps or relief for frequent users, and use toll roads as a tool to improve fuel efficiency across the state.
This is not just about convenience, it is about fuel security, cost-of-living relief, and smarter use of infrastructure during a crisis. If we continue to waste fuel in traffic while supply is under pressure, the impact on households and the economy will only get worse.
If you drive in Sydney, this affects you. Sign this petition to push for a practical solution that can save fuel, reduce congestion, and support everyday Australians during this fuel crisis.
