Hello! Back in early 2021 you gave us your support on our petition to demonstrate to Shoalhaven local government and the Land and Environment Court that we, the community, vehemently oppose the over-development of the coastal village Culburra Beach - on environmental, cultural, community and heritage grounds.
Today we’re writing to ask for your support again with another petition, this time to be tabled in State Parliament to call on the government to:
- Stop all current and planned developments in Culburra in order to conduct a review into the appropriateness of further developments.
- Require the developer at West Culburra to carry out an updated, independent environmental impact review to re-assess the impact of the proposed development.
- Review the legislative processes for future coastal developments in the Shoalhaven area and implement safeguards and procedures to protect the community and First Nations people’s rights.
- Stop all coastal developments in sensitive wetland areas along the New South Wales coast and introduce legislation to prevent future destruction of these areas.
- That the developer re-evaluates the water quality impacts and consults independent advisors in developing a management plan for the Crookhaven River estuary and Curleys Bay catchment using the closest available rainfall data and best-practice methodologies.
