NSUARB - Request For Public Hearing. Re: See Sight Tours
NSUARB - Request For Public Hearing. Re: See Sight Tours
The Issue
We, the parties signed to this petition hereby request the Nova Scotia Utility Review Board (NSUARB) to hold a public hearing regarding the business practices of See Sight Tours (SST) and their flagrant and continuous disregard of established rules and regulations that Commercial Vehicle ( CV) operators are required to operate under.
From the moment See Sight Tours entered the Nova Scotia marketplace in 2018, they have deliberately avoided and intentionally resisted attempts to bring them into regulatory compliance at the municipal (HRM) and provincial (NSUARB) levels. Acting in contravention of regulation has allowed SST to hold and maintain an unfair competitive advantage in the marketplace.
We submit that the illicit activities of See Sight Tours' has had a negative economic impact on CV operators, motor carriers, and taxi services alike, who are operating within the established limits of their respective business licenses and regulations.
We understand that the concerns of industry participants have been brought to forward to the NSUARB and that subsequent enforcement actions have been conducted by the Motor Carrier Division. Those punitive measures have failed in deterring the conduct of SST and they continue to act in a manner that is clearly outside the boundaries of their operating authority.
Collectively, we are of the opinion that SST believes there are little consequences for their actions and will continue to act with impunity unless significant and meaningful disciplinary actions are proceeded against them.
We further argue that the continued actions of SST only serve to undermine the transportation industry in Nova Scotia as a whole, where respect and adherence of regulations are the cornerstone of its existence.
We ask the NSUARB to consider our request for a public hearing into this matter as soon as possible, so that corrective measures can be put in place before the start of the 2024 tourism season.
