Novato is approaching a critical decision. On Monday, June 9th, the Novato City Council will make its final decision on the proposed Costco Mega Gas Station – a 32‑pump fuel depot next to sensitive wetlands, across from a pediatric clinic, and in an area already struggling with traffic and air‑quality concerns.
This is the last opportunity for residents to speak up before the Council votes. We need to pack the room and show that Novato cares about clean air, climate responsibility, and smart land‑use planning.
CITY COUNCIL HEARING – FINAL VOTE
Date: Monday, June 9
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Novato City Hall – 901 Sherman Avenue, Novato, CA
WHY THIS MATTERS
The proposed gas station would bring: – Increased air pollution, including benzene exposure – Traffic congestion and safety risks – Impacts to nearby wetlands and wildlife – Long‑term fossil‑fuel expansion that contradicts Novato’s climate goals.
Novato already has 12 gas stations, including two that offer discounted prices for members and non‑members. We simply do not need the largest gas station ever proposed in Marin County.
Burning fossil fuels for transportation is a major driver of global heating and wildfire risk. The last three years have been the hottest on record, and experts warn that continued warming will make fire seasons even more severe. If we are serious about fire prevention and climate resilience, building a massive new gas station in 2026 moves us in the wrong direction.
