Novato City informed us that the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) for the Costco Gas Station will take some time to prepare. The earliest release is expected shortly before the Planning Commission meeting on February 23rd.
The gas station plan shows that idling cars will face the warehouse tire store, directing exhaust toward the Tamalpais Pediatrics Clinic and across the freeway to family housing.
Although the city of Novato claims that the environmental and public health impacts would be "less than significant," credible peer-reviewed studies indicate that even small gas stations can lead to elevated cancer risks, asthma, negative effects on children's health, vapor leaks, groundwater contamination, and high benzene emissions. This is why many jurisdictions, including Novato, have prohibited the construction of new gas stations of any size.
